The Sabbath Day

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. From Exodus 20

4th Commandment

The 4th Sabbath Command is mentioned 137 times in the Bible.

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

From Isaiah: 58: 13-14

Q58:What is required in the 4th commandment?

A:The fourth commandment requireth the keeping holy to God such set times as he hath appointed in his Word; expressly one whole day in seven, to be a holy Sabbath to himself.1
1.Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD. (Leviticus 19:30, KJV).
Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee. (Deuteronomy 5:12, KJV).

Q59:Which day of the seven hath God appointed to be the weekly Sabbath?

A:From the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ, God appointed the seventh day of the week to be the weekly Sabbath; to continue to the end of the world, which is the Christian Sabbath.2
1.And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. (Genesis 2:3, KJV).
2.And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them. (Acts 20:7a, KJV).
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day. (Revelation 1:10a, KJV).

Q60:How is the Sabbath to be sanctified?

A:The Sabbath is to be sanctified by a holy resting all that day, even from such worldly employments and recreations as are lawful on other days;1 and spending the whole time in the public and private exercises of God's worship,2 except so much as is to be taken up in the works of necessity and mercy.3
1.Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein. (Leviticus 23:3a, KJV).
2.<<A Psalm or Song for the sabbath day.>> It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. (Psalms 92:1,2, KJV).
3.What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. (Matthew 12:11-12, KJV).
4th Commandment

The Ten Commandments were given to us by Moses

Deuteronomy 5:29
O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! Will the Commandments apply for ever, or Old Testament time only

Psalm 111
7 The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.
8 They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

The Septuagint derives its name from the Latin septuaginta, 70, hence the abbreviation LXX and from a legendary account in the "Letter of Aristeas" of how seventy-two Jewish scholars (six scribes from each of the twelve tribes) were asked by the Egyptian pharaoh Ptolemy II Philadelphus in the 3rd century BC to translate the Torah for inclusion in the Library of Alexandria. In a later version of that legend narrated by Philo of Alexandria, although the translators were kept in separate chambers, they all produced identical versions of the text in seventy-two days. Although this story is widely viewed as implausible today, it underlines the fact that some ancient Jews wished to present the translation as authoritative. A version of this legend is found in the Talmud, which identifies 15 specific unusual translations made by the scholars. Only 2 of these translations are found in the extant LXX. The names "Septuagint" and "LXX" are of later Latin origin and are not used in Greek. The Septuagint version is very close in wording to the King James Version KJV. Council of Chalcedon

At this council held in 451 AD, leaders of the Church affirmed the basics of our Christian faith, including the Trinity. A creed was written. Today, many associate Chalcedon with those who follow the word of God, the complete Old and New Testaments, and the following of the moral law of Moses.
