Bible and Illegal Immigration Position Paper
The new Alabama Immigration Law, HB 56, has polarized people state-wide. We
believe as the Conservative Christians of Alabama we should state our
position supporting HB 56 and encourage all people of good will to join with
us in supporting the intent of this law. The need for national borders has
always been accepted in the Bible, in our Constitution and in our system of
laws based on the Bible. We believe HB 56 is essentially a good law, made
necessary, by the unwillingness of the federal government to enforce similar
valid federal law. HB 56 would not be necessary if the Federal government
did its job in protecting our borders from people willing to break the law
to enter our country, people who unfairly seek special privilege, while law
abiding prospective immigrants respect our laws and are willing to go by our
laws to come here.
We, the Conservative Christians of Alabama don’t agree with the position of
Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal and other liberal churches that HB 56
prevents Christians from carrying out the mission of the Church. Our
disagreement is based on whether the Church should be “God” centered, or
“Man” centered.
We believe the legislature should go back to work in the next session and
pass a new law that imposes other restrictions equally effective as those
stricken by the federal judge in restricting illegal immigration into
Alabama. The illegal immigrant problem has been ignored for too long and now
we have to do something about it. We are disappointed that the liberal
church jumped so quickly to throw the baby out with the bath water.
Speaking of babies, my wife and I have worked with other Christians to save
babies from abortion and to help their desperate young mothers with the cost
of pre-natal care without considering their race or citizenship. We have
held in our hands babies that came within minutes of LEGALLY being torn to
pieces and thrown in a trash can. We’ve been threatened and cursed on the
public sidewalks at abortion clinics for sharing the Gospel and God’s love.
My wife followed up with transportation to doctors appointments and with
groceries. Some may have been illegal’s but the fear of being arrested would
not have stopped us from helping them choose life for their baby. We serve
and fear God and don’t sue the state when we don’t get our way on abstract
religious issues that seem more concerned with political correctness than
God’s will.
These churches that have taken a stand against HB 56 are strangely silent on
the murder of unborn babies in Alabama’s six abortion clinics, or the
repulsive sin of homosexuality. Is this “political correctness” or “Man
centered” religion? The scripture says “Love the sinner but hate the sin.”
If the federal government will not enforce immigration law, then our state
must. For more information on position, please check out the links below.
